Handwrite on the PDFs in your Obsidian vault

VaultInk is an Android app for writing on PDFs with a stylus. Your notes go straight into the PDF file in your vault as real annotations, so Obsidian and every other PDF app shows them. I'm looking for testers before the public release.

  • No copies, no import or export: the app edits the file where it lives.
  • Works offline. The app has no internet permission, no ads, no tracking, no account.
  • Free. English and German.

What you need

  • An Android tablet with a stylus is ideal (for example a Galaxy Tab S with S Pen). Phones work too, and a finger only scrolls and zooms.
  • Android 10 or newer.
  • A folder with PDFs on the device, ideally your Obsidian vault (synced with Obsidian Sync, Syncthing or similar). Any folder works.

How to join

  1. Join the tester group with the Google account you use in the Play Store.

    Join the group
  2. Become a tester on Google Play's test page (it opens once you're in the group).

    Open the test page
  3. Install VaultInk from the Play Store.

  4. Keep it installed for 14 days and open it now and then. Google only lets a new app go public after at least 12 testers stayed in the test for 14 days in a row, and it checks that the app is actually used.

Things to try

Tick them off as you go. The list is saved in this browser only.

tip: start with a copy of a PDF you care about

VaultInk backs up every PDF before it changes it (Settings → Backups), checks each file after writing and merges changes from other devices. It's still a beta, so a test copy is a good idea for your first minutes.

    Feedback

The easiest way: in the app, Settings → About VaultInk → Send feedback. It opens a mail with your device details and the app's error log attached. Or write to:

    vaultink@brunchnet.at

Helpful: what you did, what you expected, what happened, and a screenshot if you can. Ideas and "this felt odd" are just as welcome as bugs.
